In Boston
Oscar Baez returns for a fifth season as part of Boston’s broadcast team. He has hosted Conversando de Deportes, a Spanish-language sports talk show in Boston since 2001 and has hosted SBN’s pre-game show for four years. A native of Bani, Dominican Republic, Baez played minor league baseball in the New York Yankees organization, reaching the Double-A level.
Uri Berenguer is in his seventh season as part of Boston’s broadcast team. At the age of 26, he is one of the youngest announcers in the major leagues. A former Jimmy Fund patient at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, he became interested in a broadcasting career after a visit from Red Sox announcer Joe Castiglione. Berenguer attended Boston Latin Academy and Northeastern University and is the nephew of former major league pitcher, Juan Berenguer.
Amy Timmerman is in her third year as Executive Producer of the Boston broadcast. Timmerman has degrees from Kansas University and Bentley College and fell in love with baseball while watching the Kansas City Royals in the mid-80’s..
Nilson (Junior) Pepén has co-hosted the SBN pre-game show for three years and provides middle-inning relief to Berenguer and Baez during every Red Sox home game. Pepén was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and has a law degree from The University of Technologic of Santiago (D.R.).
In Oakland
Amaury Pi-González is one of the most recognizable and popular play-by-play voices in baseball, and he is a pioneer in Spanish sports broadcasting in the Bay Area. Pi-González joins SBN this year and is back as the Spanish voice of the Athletics after beginning his career with the Oakland team in 1977. Since then, he has worked with the San Francisco Giants, the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Born in Cuba, he was inducted into the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame and the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum in 2004. Pi-González has worked play-by-play in five different World Series over three decades.
Manolo Hernández-Douen is in his first season as the Athletics analyst for SBN. His journalistic career spans 37 years and includes a variety of experiences as a sportwriter, columnist and sports editor. Since moving to California in 1982, he has covered the NBA and Major League Baseball for several of the highest-circulation Spanish newspapers in the United States. Hernández-Douen was the Sports Editor for El Nuevo Herald in Miami from 2000 to 2007 and is a Lifetime Honorary member of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).
Taylor Schrang joins SBN this year at the Executive Producer of the Oakland broadcast. A graduate of Villanova University, Schrang was a Division I athlete, lettering all four years and serving as captain of her team during her senior year. She is bilingual and brings with her a lifelong passion for baseball.In Philadelphia
Danny Martinez is in his fourth year with SBN and the Phillies Spanish broadcast. Born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Martinez was attending Manhattan Community College in New York when he was drafted in 1977 by Dallas Green, Manager of the 1980 World Champion Phillies. Martinez made it to Double A before an injury in 1981 ended his playing career. Since then, he has never been far from baseball, including time as a scout and as an agent. He was an announcer for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 2003 to 2004 and joined SBN in 2005.
Alberto Polanco has been with SBN for two years. Media Specialist Chief Editor for Beisbol.net, announcer and broadcasting engineer for the Philadelphia broadcast. A native of the Dominican Republic, Polanco has more than a decade of experience in editing and producing audio and video footage for both broadcast and website use. His production and media relations’ work has been recognized by numerous organizations including the state of New Jersey Board of Chosen Freeholders, the office of the Mayor Gwendolyn A. Faison’s City of Camden (NJ), the Dominican Unite Culture of Camden County, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Camden County, the Dominican Festival and Parade of Philadelphia.
William Kulik is President of SBN and founded the company in 2001 in Boston. He has played every possible role within the organization, including broadcaster, producer, technician, salesman and developer of new business. Kulik expanded the company to include the Phillies in 2005, the Washington Nationals in 2008 and the Oakland Athletics in 2009. Also in 2009, he added the Caribbean World Series to the SBN family and traveled to Mexicali, Mexico with Danny Martinez to broadcast the games in Spanish to major cities throughout the United States. Kulik is bilingual, travels frequently to the Dominican Republic, and is known by listeners as “El Gringo Malo” in Boston and now in Philadelphia, where he serves as Executive Producer.In Washington, DC
Luciano Rodriguez joined SBN in 2008 when the Nationals were added to the SBN family. He is better known in the Washington, DC Hispanic community as “El Coqui Deportivo” and has been a player, coach, scout, reporter, correspondent and broadcaster for more than three decades. Rodriguez has covered numerous sporting events, including Soccer World Cups, Summer Olympic Games, Caribbean Series, World Baseball Classic and World Series where he began his baseball broadcasting career working with legendary Spanish baseball broadcaster, Juan Vene. Rodriguez was also the color commentator for the Spanish broadcasts of the Baltimore Orioles from 1991-1993.
Angel Castillo has been with SBN for two years. A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he has worked as a sports anchor and daily news reporter for Latin Radio Group in Philadelphia. He has also done sports journalism work for Impacto Newspaper. Castillo started with SBN as a reporter and was part of the Philadelphia team before coming to Washington.
Manuel Serrano is in his second year with SBN and is Executive Producer in Washington as well as VP of Sales and Broadcast Operations for SBN nationwide. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to the United States for his education, earning degrees in Business, Finance and Foreign Languages from Mount Saint Mary’s College. Serrano brings nearly 20 years of media experience both nationally and internationally to SBN, including a broad range of broadcasting, marketing, sales, management and public relations knowledge. While in Venezuela, Serrano also served as an elected State Representative to the National Congress where he served one term, representing the state of Miranda.
